GENERATIONS OF LEGACY: Celebrating Father's Day
To celebrate Father’s Day, we invited three CALIBRE families to join us for nine holes and a little friendly competition. Fathers, sons, good conversation and questionable scorekeeping.
Between rounds, we spoke about style, fatherhood and what happens when your sons start borrowing from, or competing with, your wardrobe.
Since 1989, CALIBRE has been part of the lives of Australian men, dressing them for everyday moments, defining occasions and the milestones that become family stories.
For Laci, Anthony and Mat, CALIBRE has accompanied them through many chapters. Now, they’re watching the next generation begin to make it their own.
Laci has worn CALIBRE just about everywhere.
“From casual jeans and white sneakers at a barbecue to suits that have taken me through the finest champagne houses in France, CALIBRE has outfitted every chapter of my life.”
Some favourites have stayed in rotation for more than a decade.
“I still bring out iconic pieces and get compliments on a ‘cool jacket.’ CALIBRE gives me comfort and confidence. From understated to wild, it’s just got it.”
His biggest lesson from fatherhood is that no one gets it right all the time.
“Being a father has taught me humility. You do your best, but you make mistakes. I admire Blair’s resilience and courage, and perhaps we’ve reached the point where we now learn from each other.”
Anthony discovered CALIBRE more than 15 years ago. He came for the style and fit, and stayed for the quality, innovation and versatility.
“CALIBRE has always evolved with the times while staying true to the identity that attracted me in the first place.”
Now his sons are getting involved, although not always in quite the same way.
“We have slightly different styles, but it’s great to see my sons embracing a brand I’ve worn for so long. CALIBRE takes us from T-shirts and shorts at a pool party to shirts, blazers and tailored pants for a cocktail party.”
His advice to them is simple: work hard, back yourself and be a good person.
“I hope they remain kind, empathetic and grounded, no matter what they achieve.”
As the boys have grown up, the dynamic has shifted too.
“We can share experiences and learn from each other now, not only as father and sons, but also as friends.”
Mat’s family photo albums double as something of a CALIBRE archive.
“CALIBRE has followed me through Christmas Days at the beach, my daughter’s wedding in Ireland, my sons’ formals, race days and winters by the fire.”
It’s also a welcome change from the weekday uniform.
“My usual daywear is hi-vis, so I love to scrub up and put on something nice, something fresh, something CALIBRE.”
Mat hopes his sons carry forward a strong work ethic, kindness and the confidence to be themselves.
“At the end of the day, they should be able to look in the mirror, hold their heads high and like the person looking back at them. If they can do that, I’ve done my job.”
But the best family moments don’t require dressing up.
“Some of our happiest times are camping, riding motorbikes through the bush and finishing the day around a bonfire with music. Just quality, raw family time.”
